Why it is so difficult to get listed in DMOZ?

How can I see the status of my submission?
Not many people use DMOZ as source of information - as Google, Live Search or another search engine is used; however, DMOZ is has another purpose - its data is freely available and is used by ... Google Directory. Google Directory is nothing else but DMOZ in Google Directory skin! Surprised or not, this is the sole true. DMOZ sites are reviewed by volunteer human editors, and hence the included sites are unlikely to include malicious software, or other less valuable content (of course if we assume that a DMOZ editor is the incarnation of objectivity!!!).
Having this in mind, it isn't strange that DMOZ is so much favorable by Google Indexing programs - and hence it is a must do for every webmaster that wants to get a higher google page rank and by this, to increase its search engine generated traffic.
A listing in DMOZ results in two important backlinks to the listed website: one from DMOZ and one from the Google directory. Which have a respectable page rank. What is more important is that besides these two links, you will get thousands of other backlinks coming from other sites that have downloaded and use the DMOZ directory. Thus, by getting listed in DMOZ, you receive thousands of live backlings to your webpage!. As long as the page rank depends on the amount of relevant and quality backlinks to your site, this is a blessing to your website traffic.
Why it is so difficult to get listed in DMOZ?
DMOZ has a huge army of editors. However, not all of them are active. Even more, among the active editors, there are also some which are not doing reviews always when there is site on the waiting queue. This is the first reason why it may take forever to have your site reviewed. This process does not depend on you. It is a stochastic process and the more the editors, the less its deterministic nature.
However, there is something you can do to secure fast review of your submission: select carefully your category! By doing this, you are one step to getting listed or at least reviewed. Lets consider you have chosen the wrong category. First you have to stay on the waiting list until its your turn to get reviewed. Now if the editor decides that it is not the right category for you, your site will have to queue again under the new category and so your waiting time will be doubled, tripled, quadrupled, ...
There are hundred of thousands of websites which are waiting to be listed to DMOZ. Now if you want to avoid that, choose the right category.
What Happens when I resubmit my site?
This is of no help and often does nothing but update the submission information of your previous submission. Whether,or not your queue number is also updated is unknown. However, resubmitting after 1-2 months is not what people will recommend.
Are there corrupt DMOZ editors?
Corrupt DMOZ editors and ODP abuse brings disrepute to the quality and integrity of the DMOZ directory. As in everything, DMOZ editor can turn to the dark side or be a dark person beforehand. If you have doubts or get to know one while chatting or surfing or whatsoever there are ways to report them by submitting a compliant via The Open Directory Public Abuse Report System. This reporting system allows users to complain about suspicions of abusive editors, arrogance or arrogant conduct to DMOZ meta editors and staff. You can follow up the the status of an existing report by entering the complaint ID that will be assigned to your compliant report on submission. You can also contact directly DMOZ stuff via the email address staff@dmoz.org and report the issue.Usually they are on alert to look for abusive and malignant editors.
What the public says?
Reporting a corrupt DMOZ editor is not always effective no matter if you offer a proof or not. The public wants to see something which is
something more open that a closed door like it is now. There is no warranty that your report will be quickly processed. There are pending reports for as much as one year.
How can I see the status of my submission?
This is the worst part of the whole submission to DMOZ directory. There is no way to find out what is the status of your submission unless you know an DMOZ insider and consult him about the status of your DMOZ listing. This is also a contact point of corruption! However to avoid that there is a place to find out what is the development of your site submission. The DMOZ feedback is NONE. Submission to DMOZ is a one way process. Even though before it was possible to inquire about your DMOZ submission status, this is no more the case. Frustrating.
